Find Chocowinity Court Records

Chocowinity court records live in the state court system, not at town hall. Start with the eCourts Portal for a quick case summary or hearing date. For official papers, go to the Beaufort County Clerk of Superior Court. A Chocowinity case might be a traffic ticket, a civil dispute, a criminal charge, a magistrate matter, an estate, or a special proceeding. The town's municipal building handles local government only. A Chocowinity court docket always travels the county judicial route, along with the county's current court calendar.

Chocowinity Municipal Building Is Not a Court Docket Office

The municipal building sits at 3391 Highway 17 Business South, Chocowinity, NC 27817. Mail goes to P.O. Box 145. The phone number is (252) 946-6568. Departments, public documents, and municipal services are published there. No court counter works out of that office, and there is no court clerk, public judicial terminal, calendar, or case-search database either.

Posted hours run Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., plus Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon. Those are town-office hours. They say nothing about courtroom schedules or file inspections. State court records belong with the Beaufort Clerk and the courthouse in Washington.

Chocowinity counted 722 residents in the 2020 Census. Its small size does not change the court division, the Clerk custodian, or the public-access limits.

Chocowinity Municipal Court

Chocowinity has no municipal court. It has no city court clerk, no judicial payment tool, no hearing room, and no town docket archive. The heading above marks an absence rather than a local judicial office. Every real path leads to the Beaufort County General Court of Justice. That route runs through its eCourts, calendar, and Clerk channels. Town documents serve municipal purposes. Orders, judgments, civil filings, criminal case records, and certified copies all stay with the state judicial route. A town address will not work as a court-search key. Neither will a local report number or an agenda item.

Chocowinity Case Numbers Belong in Portal, Not Town Documents

Chocowinity names a real place. The Portal's county filter does not list it, though. Choose Beaufort under Location. From there, a case number or a supported party name identifies the record, and the filter narrows the field. A town street address, a municipal document date, a utility account, or a police-service reference matches nothing in eCourts.

Public results stop at 200. If a broad Chocowinity name search hits that cap, refine with solid court information before assuming the list is complete.

Chocowinity Court Settings and Dates

Chocowinity court dates appear on Beaufort's Civil or Criminal calendars, or through Portal Search Hearings. At the official calendar page, set County = Beaufort and pick the calendar type. Search Hearings works case by case. Choose Beaufort, a documented search type, and the required date fields. Either result is current scheduling information. It can change at any time.

DateA public setting date that can be changed by notice, order, weather closure, or continuance.
TimeThe published timing for a hearing, not a universal Chocowinity docket-call sequence.
Search typeCase number, party, business, attorney, judicial officer, or courtroom when supported and known.
LocationBeaufort in Search Hearings, not the town municipal building.
Calendar typeCivil or Criminal in the county calendar selector.

If a Chocowinity date was missed or looks uncertain, call the court or Clerk at (252) 940-4000. The municipal building cannot reschedule a state-court matter.

Chocowinity Court Dates Need a County Calendar Choice

The public calendar opens a session view after County and Calendar Type are chosen. It helps. Still, it cannot replace the individual court notice or the Portal hearing search. Some calendars go unposted. Others miss the newest case-specific change. With an exact case number, use the narrower Search Hearings route, then verify a close appearance with the court office.

Search Hearings accepts a case number, party name, business name, attorney information, judicial officer, or courtroom, depending on the path chosen. Each path requires the actual date fields on the form. Charge words are not supported.

A Chocowinity calendar entry gives public scheduling context. A court notice or Clerk confirmation controls. That is the word that counts on appearance questions.

Finding Chocowinity Traffic Records

A Chocowinity traffic citation runs through state District Court. The citation number and court date printed on it are your reliable identifiers. Portal Make Payments can test eligibility by citation number, case number, party name, business name, or driver's-license modes. Only eligible balances appear. That result never replaces the citation's instructions.

For scheduling, use the Beaufort criminal calendar or Search Hearings. Missed a Chocowinity court date? Call the court or Clerk directly. Do not assume the municipal office can amend or reset the state case. See Beaufort County Traffic Court for the countywide court-record distinction.

Chocowinity Court Records Have a Public Summary and Official File

Start with the Portal's Register of Actions. For a Chocowinity case, it gives a public chronological summary. That summary is drawn from the Clerk's official record in public case types. You may see the case number, visible procedural entries, public status, parties or attorneys shown, and hearing context. Treat it as a finding aid, not the record itself. It is not an official copy, a certification, or a complete set of documents.

The real file lives with the Beaufort Clerk of Superior Court. Visit the courthouse at 112 W. Second Street, Washington, NC 27889. Or mail the judicial address at P.O. Box 1403, Washington, NC 27889. Call (252) 940-4000 with questions. That covers official copies, certification, terminal availability, or a Chocowinity paper-file or restricted record.

Where Chocowinity Court Cases Go

Chocowinity cases do not run through a Chocowinity municipal court. A citation or incident in town lands in the Beaufort County General Court of Justice. The division depends on the matter. District Court takes traffic, infractions, misdemeanors, and many civil and family matters. Superior Court handles felonies and civil matters over $25,000, while magistrates and the Clerk carry their own defined state roles.

Docket flow: Chocowinity city context › Beaufort Portal, Calendar, and Clerk › District Court, Superior Court, magistrate, or Clerk-side category.

City lines do not set a filing's judicial division. If an appeal shows in the public Register of Actions, follow the state-court hierarchy reflected in the court record instead of hunting for a town appeal board.

Chocowinity Court Record Limits Stay in Force

There is no separate Chocowinity court archive. The public Portal does not erase access limits. A public case summary helps you locate a case and review the visible chronology. But a missing result can stem from a filter, data scope, confidentiality, sealing, or a technical glitch. It never proves that no court matter exists.

Juvenile, sealed, confidential, and protected categories stay closed. That holds no matter what public documents sit on the municipal website. A Portal account grants no special access either. For the official record and the correct access route, the Clerk is the right contact.

Accessing Chocowinity Court Records

Access to Chocowinity court records follows North Carolina's clerk-custody and public-access rules. Under G.S. 7A-109, clerks must maintain court records, files, dockets, indexes, minutes, and judgments, and generally allow public inspection during regular office hours unless a law blocks access. G.S. 132-1 sets out the state's public-record policy.

Chocowinity access rule: public town documents and public court records use different custodians and different access channels.

G.S. 7A-109 supports the Clerk's court-record role and ordinary public inspection.

G.S. 132-1 provides the state public-record policy, subject to specific exceptions.

G.S. 7B-3000 keeps juvenile records from ordinary public inspection except through authorized access or court order.

Ask the Clerk about an official copy, certification, or restricted-file process. The city offers no separate Chocowinity exception to those judicial access rules.

Chocowinity Court Records Need a Clerk Request

Know the case and the exact record you need before you contact the Clerk about an official Chocowinity court document. The January 2026 fee chart lists $2.00 for the first page of each document. It adds $0.25 for each additional page or fraction, and $3.00 for a certificate under seal. No standalone docket-sheet charge appears on that chart. So do not quote one without Clerk confirmation.

A Portal printout can help you identify the case, but it carries no certification. Copy cost varies with the document and page count. A certification request can add its own charge. The Clerk can state the current request procedure. The Clerk can also say whether the public material can be supplied. The Town of Chocowinity official site publishes the town's municipal information.

Chocowinity court records municipal building context

A Chocowinity record request works best with one split made at the start. Keep town material and court material separate. A municipal document may go through the town channel. A case number, citation, or hearing question belongs on the Beaufort court route. The same goes for a case summary, certified copy, or restriction question. Jot down the public case number. Read the visible Chocowinity chronology. Then ask the Clerk for the official document. That split keeps a judicial question from landing at the municipal building. It also keeps a Chocowinity court request accurate.

For a future court setting, keep the case number with the court notice. Then recheck the current county tools. For a mail request, ask the Clerk first about the document and certification. Ask as well about copying cost and delivery method. A direct confirmation from the Clerk beats a municipal address or a saved search result every time.
